Mode of Action

IRAC1A

Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor

Carbaryl reversibly inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in insect nerve synapses. Unlike organophosphates, carbamylation of AChE by carbaryl is reversible — the enzyme can spontaneously reactivate over time. Despite this reversibility, the acute disruption of cholinergic neurotransmission is sufficient to cause insect paralysis and mortality at label rates.

Resistance Management

Medium resistance risk. Carbaryl resistance has been documented in several insect species via esterase-mediated detoxification. Rotate with pyrethroids, diamides, or spinosyns. AChE inhibitors (IRAC 1A and 1B) share cross-resistance pathways.
