Mode of Action

IRAC4A

Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Competitive Modulator

Thiamethoxam is a second-generation neonicotinoid that acts as a pro-insecticide, being rapidly metabolized to clothianidin in treated insects. Both parent compound and metabolite bind to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, disrupting normal nerve signal transmission and causing insect paralysis and death. Excellent systemic uptake via roots and foliage.

Resistance Management

Medium resistance risk due to neonicotinoid class. Rotate annually with IRAC Group 28 (diamides) or Group 3A (pyrethroids). Thiamethoxam and imidacloprid share the same mode of action — rotating between neonicotinoids does not reduce resistance pressure.
