Mode of Action

IRAC5

Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Allosteric Activator

Spinosad is a mixture of spinosyns A and D, naturally derived from the soil actinomycete Saccharopolyspora spinosa. It allosterically activates insect nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at a site distinct from neonicotinoids, and also enhances GABA receptor activity. The combined disruption of nicotinic and GABAergic neurotransmission causes rapid neural excitation, muscle fatigue, paralysis, and death.

Resistance Management

Low resistance risk due to novel mode of action and natural origin. Spinosad resistance has been documented in diamondback moth and western flower thrips, but not yet in key turfgrass pests. Unique IRAC Group 5 classification makes it a high-value rotation partner.
