Mode of Action

HRAC2

ALS Inhibitor

Sulfosulfuron inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), also known as acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS), the first common enzyme in branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis (valine, leucine, isoleucine). Disruption of amino acid synthesis causes rapid cessation of cell division in meristematic tissue, leading to chlorosis and necrosis.

Resistance Management

Medium resistance risk. ALS-inhibitor resistance is well documented across many weed species globally. Annual bluegrass (Poa annua) populations with ALS resistance have been confirmed in some US turfgrass systems. Rotate with herbicides from non-ALS HRAC groups and scout for reduced efficacy.
